We don't keep a lot of dinner items in our house because we are rarely at home for dinner time. So any day we are home its "what are going to have for dinner?" On a whim the other night we decided to go up one of the canyons near our house, light a campfire and have hot dogs and smores. The problem is this is not something you should be doing on a whim with 2 young children. So we grabbed some stuff we would need and headed out before it got too dark. The campsite was not too far off the road and I was worried the whole time about Kayleigh running off. She stayed close to me except when she wanted to follow the dumb dog who did not want to stay close. Anyway as soon as we got there Joel headed out to find firewood and left me with the kids and the dog for a good 20minutes or more. I was trying to unload wrangle Kayleigh, occupy the baby and keep the dog and Kayleigh out of the road. I ended up laying the baby in the back of the car with the short tailgate up.. a makeshift play pen but it worked. She is the little pink thing in the left side of the car.
By the time Joel came back with firewood and got the fire going it was getting really dark. That's when we realized we had no flashlights or lanterns. We would have used the headlights for the car but the xenon was a little too bright. Instead we used the courtesy lights on the car which kept shutting off every 10 minutes. At one point the lights shut off on the car and while Joel was stirring the fire the flame went out. Kayliegh grabbed me and said "OOOH its dark and spooky" We had a good time anyway. Kayleigh roasted her first hot dog.
In the darkness I had a hard time making out Kayleigh's face and she looked at me and her nose looked funny. You can't really tell how dark it is because the flash on the camera is so bright. Anyway, I couldn't tell what it was so I walked her to the car so I could see her and she was covered in dirt!
Laurelyn sleeping soundly in my Hotsling. We LOVE this. I don't know how I would go anywhere with both kids without this thing.
